Delcie A. Halsey Speech Language Pathologist

My daughter’s progress since she has started seeing Delcie Halsey has been nothing short of a miracle. We found Delcie when we were at a very frustrating point in our lives. My daughter Courtney (14) is a moderate to severe stutterer and was in desperate need of a fluency therapist. Delcie was there for her in every sense of the word. My daughter would see Delcie weekly and with-in a short period of time we could see an improvement in her fluency, in her confidence and in the way she presents herself.  Delcie is amazing at incorporating her speech lessons into fun therapy. She always listens closely to Courtney and takes an honest interest in all she has to say, in the office or on the telephone. She has been patient, wonderful, informative and most of all Delcie has made a huge difference in Courtney's life!

Delcie Halsey was my saving Grace!  I remember back in the 7th grade when I played Reno Sweeney.  I stuttered on every word and my parents were sitting there practically in tears, and I was humiliated.  People were looking at each other in sheer terror.  People were laughing.  It was awful, but then we decided to search for a speech therapist outside of school.  Someone recommended Delcie Halsey.  So we went to see what this Delcie Halsey was all about!  Thank God we did!  She helped me immensely with my speech!  I was with Delcie for two years!  I loved when we would do desensitization exercises such as going out for dinner and ordering!  We would go to the malls, and I would ask at various counters what they had and how much the items cost.  I did this because these were scary situations for me.  They still are, but with Delcie's help they have gotten so much better!  Delcie made desensitization fun!  I always looked forward to the therapy sessions because Delcie made them fun!  My mom would hear so much laughing that she wanted to come in and have fun with us!  After the sessions my mother would always say, "thank God for Delcie!"  Delcie even added desensitization in the therapy sessions!!  I would call various places and asked questions like.."what time do you close?"  I would use the techniques, and if I stuttered we would never give up and keep practicing and eventually, with Delcie's help, I would always succeed.  I would recommend Delcie to anybody with a speech disorder.  She could be another child's saving grace!  I miss Delcie so much that I want to go for some more therapy and refresh on the techniques. but more so to laugh again with Delcie!  After all, she was and is my "speech secret weapon!"

I am so grateful for the work you did with my son to improve his fluency. The strategies you gave me to help him at home were also great. I have found that he now points out to me when he has used “smooth” speech!

Delcie - thanks for being a fabulous therapist for our daughter Ruchama!  Your dedication, patience and up-beat attitude are hard to come by.  At the age of 3 1/2  Ruchama came for her initial appointment with you.  Now that she's 4 1/2 her speech is nice and smooth and improving daily!  Thank you for giving us the tools with which to help her communicate beautifully.

Last year my 10yr old daughter began stuttering.  We were referred to Delcie and have been very happy with the results.  Her episodes of stuttering have decreased significantly.  My daughter loves working with Delcie,  which makes the situation a lot easier.

" Delcie was wonderful with my three year old son.  As a mom and speech therapist , I was very concerned about my son's recent episodes of stuttering.  I wanted to take him to a certified specialist who was highly skilled in dealing with preschoolers who stutter.  Delcie showed me techniques to use with my son for a few minutes a day and his stuttering has significantly decreased as a result.    I plan on using these techniques with my own students as well. Thanks so much Delcie for helping my son gain his confidence and fluency of speech!"

I do want to thank you though for all of your help and patience with Max, I really do appreciate it. We are very happy with the progress that he has made - and even though he still has his bouts of disfluency, I am so much more comfortable addressing it because I know that there are very simple things that we can practice with him that will help him work through it. The techniques that you have shared with us - from stretching Max's first word, to taking pauses - are simple and straightforward, and make it very easy for my wife and I to really coach him.

We have a plan now, which was one of my biggest concerns with his last therapist. You have introduced simple techniques that Max can use on his own, and with us, and they serve as the foundation for everything else that we are doing with him. It is great to see how you are taking those simple concepts and applying them to new things, gradually pushing Max to apply the techniques in more conversational settings. Finally, I appreciate you taking the time to help my wife and I understand how we as parents can best help Max - we didn't have that before, and it is very comforting to know that there are things that we can do with him that really do make a difference.

Thank you Delcie

Delcie put me at ease and helped me understand just what I had to do to get my swallow back. She motivated me to get my exercises done each day. Delcie was kind and always took time to listen to my concerns. I will always remember her kindness. Best of all my swallow is coming back, thanks to her! She is very special and made me feel that way. I would recommend Delcie as a Speech Pathologist to anyone! Again, she was great!

Sincerely,
Susan Kull

Delcie Halsey is a fantastic speech-language pathologist to go to for stuttering therapy. When I was in high school, and struggling with my speech, she provided me with not only great information about stuttering and speaking easier, but also made me more confident as a speaker in general. Not every speech-language pathologist knows a great deal about stuttering, but Delcie possesses the knowledge, curiosity, passion, and empathy that make her an ideal therapist for stuttering treatment. Beyond that, she focuses on real life speaking situations and includes transfer activities in therapy that really make a difference in everyday life. Picking a good therapist is essential for effective stuttering treatment, and I would absolutely recommend Delcie for any individual or family who is seeking high quality services in this area.
